OK, Now we're asking for money.

2026 Dues..

PLEASE

Money.jpg

One Stupabillion!  That's how many people ask me to donate money each week. My inbox is so full that last month, I almost missed the message from Amazon about my purple striped socks.  It's outrageous!

We really try not to add to that, but even a dinky little club like ours costs money to run.  We have to pay for things like this cool web site, our PO box, email software, and our booth at community day.  So, every January, we ask those who can to chip in and help keep our club afloat.  This year, we're asking in February because we were all caught up in the convention in January.

We ask people to chip in

$25.00 a year

to keep us going.

Monmouth County Democratic Convention Results

Give Peace a Chance

Dem-ass.jpg

Hey, remember back in January when every email and newsletter was about the upcoming Monmouth County Democratic Convention?  Well, it's February now.  Wanna know how that whole convention thing turned out?

THE NOT EXCITING RACE:

In a stunning show of obvious, Corey Booker won the endorsement of the Monmouth County Democrats over his opponent Nobody.

THE EXCITING RACE:

There are FOUR people running in the primary for a chance to take on Chris Smith in New Jersey's fourth congressional district, and at the convention, the Monmouth County Democrats chose to endorse

Rachel Peace

This race was interesting, in that none of the folks running were very well known and there was no obvious choice.  I liked all of them.  Winning the endorsement of the county Dems means that Rachel Peace will be on the ballot with the heading "Monmouth County Democrats", and it also means that the Dems will provide various resources to her campaign to help her out.

It's worth noting that this is merely an endorsement. The real contest is the June 2 primary where all voters will decide who gets to run in November, and now that the "Party Line" has been abolished, the endorsement doesn't have as much weight as it used to.

Here are the results:

  • Rachel Peace - 40 votes

  • Julie Flynn - 32 votes

  • John Blake - 31 votes

  • Bob English - 13 votes

As of now, none of these folks are dropping out of the race, so it's still a hotly contested race in June.  In case you missed it, you can learn about these folks on our Candidate Info Page.

Congratulations to Rachel on her victory.

Redistricting comes to Monmouth County and Tinton Falls

Tiny District Map.jpg

Nationally, redistricting is in the news a lot lately.  It's an unprecedented sham to try and affect the outcome of the November election and it's a disgrace.

Don't freak out. This is not that.

In news that doesn't have a particularly big effect, the Monmouth County Board of Elections has undertaken a redistricting of the county election districts. These are just the small districts where each of us vote.  In Tinton Falls, we have 15 separate small districts, and each one gets a polling place.  It's been a lot of years since they last redrew the district lines. That has lead to a big imbalance, where some districts have very few people and some have a lot.  This current effort aims to rebalance the districts.

As far as election results go, this will have absolutely ZERO effect on the outcome of any State or National election.

Here is a list of the non-so dramatic effects this will have:

  • Your district might have changed, so you might have a new polling location.  Make sure you check your sample ballot before the June primary to see where you vote.

  • This will shuffle the County Committee positions a little. We can have two county committee people per district. This might cause one committee person to now be in a different district. Our awesome Municipal Chairperson Pam Herzenberg is working that.

There was some controversy regarding this whole thing, but that comes from people who just like to have something to complain about.  The commissioners could have done a better job of notifying people but other than that, it seems like they did a decent job.

THE RESULTS

A preliminary, unofficial, not for legal purposes, draft, in progress, tentative, not approved list of changes for Tinton Falls can be seen here:

Click here for the unofficial spreadsheet of affected streets.

I took that unofficial list and tried to summarize the changes and also draw them on a map.  Changes look like this:

  • Parts of districts 3 and 5 were moved to district 6

  • Parts of district 2 were moved to district 10

  • District 8 was split in two and the halves were moved to districts 3 and 4

  • District 15 was then renamed to district 8

  • A new district 15 was created from parts of districts 1 and 10

WTF???
THERE'S A FIRE ELECTION HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

Fire Truck.jpg

Here's a funny story...

Right in the middle of writing this newsletter, I went out to pick up my mail, and wedged between next week's supermarket flyers and my 63rd renewal message for AARP was an official Mail-in Election Ballot from the Monmouth County Clerk.  Seems a bit early for the June primary.  What could it be?

I opened it and found a ballot for a Special Fire Election in Fire District 2.  They are asking for about $3M to buy a new fire truck.  That's it.  One question.  No explanation, no nothing.  Yes or no?

Obviously, there must be info about this somewhere, so I went-a-hunting.  Guess what I found?  NOTHING!  Yea, I checked the fire district web page, the borough web page, meeting minutes, the county clerk pages, google, and even bing!  There is ZERO public information about this election.

By the way, if you live in fire district 2 and don't get mail-in ballots, your in-person election day is Thursday, March 12 (Thursday?).

As I write this, I'm still seeking information about this election.  The borough responded to me letting me know that the fire districts operate completely independent from the borough, and none of them saw this coming.

I did just get a call back from one of the commissioners, and he explained to me that the new truck was requested by the chiefs particularly in response to the new hospital that's going up in town.  He is going to try and get me a presentation that was given about this.  I'll make that available when I get it.  He also said there was something in the Asbury Park Press, but I don't have a subscription.

If anyone knows more about this, please drop us a line, and we'll publish more info as we get it.

This is my first ever surprise election...  How exciting.
