Tinton Falls Redistricting Update -
Final Maps

Tiny District Map.jpg

In our last newsletter there was an article about how Tinton Falls voting districts were being changed.  If you didn't read that, check it out. It was absolutely brilliant.

In that article, we provided preliminary lists and maps.  We now have the final lists and maps and are making them available to you here.  These maps show the new lines in the Tinton Falls voting districts.

Just a reminder that for the small percentage of people affected by these changes, this only affects where you vote and will have no affect on the outcome of any elections.

Help us Find New Tinton Falls Committee Members

Tiny District Map.jpg

Help, we need more committee members!

What?  You don't know what a committee member is?  Don't sweat it, nobody does.

Quite simply, the County Committee member is the lowest level elected official of the political party. Tinton Falls has FIFTEEN voting districts, and each of those districts gets to elect up to TWO county committee members during the Democratic primary every two years.  That means that in theory, we should have THIRTY committee members, but we don't, because many of those positions go unfilled.

The main role of the county committee member is to be a delegate in the annual Democratic Convention and vote on which candidates the party will endorse. It's not a difficult role, but you can take it farther if you are interested.

Once this redistricting happens, we will have 11 open committee member positions, and here's where we need your help.

If you, or anyone you know whats to get a bit more involved in the political process, please talk to them about being a committee member.  If you have someone who is interested, please reach out to our Municipal Chairperson, Pam Herzenberg for more info.

To be clear, these are elected positions.  If you want to do this, your name will be added to the ballot in your district, so even if there are already two committee members in your district, you can run against them, and the top two vote getters win.  But our big concern is for the open seats.  We currently have openings in the following districts:  1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15

Thanks for helping out.

FIRE DISTRICT 2 ELECTION UPDATE

-

WE GOT THE INFO

Fire Truck.jpg

In our last newsletter, we published a story about how there was a surprise election happening in Fire District 2.  If you didn't read that, check it out. It was absolutely brilliant :)

I reached out to the Fire District 2 commissioners, and since the last newsletter I did hear back and have the relevant information regarding this election.

First, I want to give a special shout out to Fire Commissioner Jack Jadevaia, the current treasurer.  Very soon after I sent my "great email of disappointment" to the commissioners, Mr. Jadevaia called me to discuss my concerns and the lack of information.  Soon after that, the Fire District added a press release to the Fire District 2 Web Site that gave most of the details I, and the rest of the public needed to know.

After reading the press release, I still have a few additional questions, and again, Mr. Jadevaia quickly called me back with the answers.  I now take the press release and the answers I received and will summarize them here:

  • The fire department wants a new ladder truck to help them deal with newer taller buildings in town, specifically the new RWJ hospital going up.

  • RWJ has given $1.5M to the borough fire districts to help pay for additional equipment needed.  $750K of that is going toward this new truck. The other half went to fire district 1.  I don't know what they are doing with it.

  • The district plans to retire and trade-in one of their existing fire trucks to make room for this new one, and that money will also go toward the new truck.

  • The district wants to issue bonds to pay for the remainder of the cost of the new truck.  We are holding an election because the district isn't allowed to go into debt without getting permission from the public.

  • The referendum we're voting on authorizes the fire district to borrow an amount not to exceed $3M to pay for the balance of the truck after the $750K from RWJ and the trade-in.

  • I was told that the actual price of the truck is much more likely to be in the $1.5 to $2M range, but the $3M number was put there to allow for a buffer.  The district will only borrow what they actually need.  So, if the truck is $2M and we already have $750K and maybe another $100K from the trade-in, that's only borrowing $1.15M.

  • The bonds they plan to sell will be paid off over 10 years.

  • Buying this new truck is not expected to raise anyone's taxes because the paying off of the debt falls within the districts normal operating budget for the next 10 years.  The fire district rate for this year actually went down slightly.

So, in summary, we get a totally cool new truck that should come at no additional expense to the taxpayer.  I can probably live with that.

PLUS - for all you hardware geeks, check out the totally cool promotional video for this new truck.  I watched it like 5 times. I love this truck.

The commissioners invite any and all interested people to reach out, or better still, they invited us to their future meetings.  I would go but I'm traveling at the next meeting, which is March 5th, 2026 at 7:00PM at Northside Engine Company No. 4 – 35 Springdale Ave, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724.
