New Dems Club for 2025

Look, it's hard to keep doing this stuff month after month. In 2024, it was hard to keep our club's enthusiasm up, and then when Trump won the election, well, that pretty much killed the mojo. So if we're going to keep on doing this thing, we need to try something new, so that's just what we're doing.

We're creating a more fun, interactive, and social club... with FOOD and BEVERAGES! Yea, we're still talking politics and seeing what we can do to make a difference, but we're doing it over dinner and drinks with what will hopefully bring a broader group.

If you got any of the last four emails, you already know what all the changes are, but they are also summarized in our About The Club page.
We really want to meet all the great people who get these emails, so please consider checking out one of our upcoming meetings.

Meeting Schedule for 2025

One of the changes for 2025 is that we're fixing our schedule to a specific day of the month. For 2025, our meetings will be on the

Fourth Tuesday of the Month (most of the time)
There might be months where the fourth Tuesday doesn't work.

Here are the planned dates dates for 2025.

Annual Dues
PLEEEEEEASE

Personally, I think we've been pretty great about NOT asking you for money, but once a year, we have to ask our members to contribute $25.00 per person to help fund the work we do. This money is critical to help us pay for things like this web site, our booth at community day, and all of those space lasers we supposedly have. Pretty please, if you have the means, send us your annual dues. Here's how you can get the money to us:

Please - Send $25.00 per person

Send electronically via Zelle:
Send to: info@tfdems.org
Or scan this QR code from inside Zelle:

Send an old fashioned check:
Payable to:
The Democratic Club of Tinton Falls
PO Box 91
Oakhurst NJ 07755
Or, if you must use cash, come pay at a meeting
Cash is our second least favorite option.
Not giving us any money is our least favorite option.
New Mailing Address

We change our mailing address so many times, you'd think people actually send us mail. They don't (unless you're sending us a check).

We had to change our mailing address starting in 2025. We now share a PO box with the Tinton Falls Democratic Committee. Here's the new address:

The 2025 Democratic Candidates for Governor

Holy New Jersey Batman! There are SIX Democrats running for Governor this year. How on earth are we supposed to choose?

Our current Governor Phil Murphy has exhausted his allocation of terms and must leave office at the end of the year, and we've currently got SIX Democrats and FOUR Republicans running to replace him. We're not going to waste valuable bits and bytes talking about the Republicans, but we can tell you about the Democrats and give you pointers to all sorts of information about them to help you decide.

First, let's see who they are:

Most of you don't have to decide who to vote for until the June primary, BUT, the County Committee members need to decide who they like in time for the Monmouth County Democratic Convention on Feb 22, so pay attention to the next article.

The 2025 State Assembly Election

While the Governor's race is getting a lot of attention because it's contested and the Convention is coming up, there's another race this year that's even more important to the people reading this newsletter, and that is the
State Assembly Election for Legislative District 11

Running for re-election this year are our two fantastic assembly representatives:
Margie Donlon
Luanne Peterpaul

They successfully defeated their two Republican challengers last time, but it's going to be even harder this time with the Republican's gaining so much momentum.

These two candidates will be who we spend most of our time and money supporting this year as a club.
Monmouth County Democratic Convention

The Monmouth County Democratic Convention is coming up on Saturday, Feb 22. It's at the convention where the Monmouth County Democrats vote to determine who will get the county party endorsement in the upcoming June Primary.

In the past, getting the party endorsement was a huge deal because of something called "The Party Line", which meant the winner got an extremely favorable position on the ballot in June, which most of the time meant that person would win the Primary. Now, you might think that having the party insiders effectively determine who would win the Primary doesn't feel much like democracy, and you'd be right. Luckily, last year, a judge ruled in a lawsuit and banned the party line, hopefully forever. However, the county party can still endorse a candidate and print that on the ballot, they just can't manipulate the ballot to advantage a candidate.

This year at the convention, we'll be voting to endorse candidates for Governor, State Assembly, and State Democratic Committee. Only the Governor's race is actually contested, and it's going to be one heck of a contest. (See candidates above).

One interesting fact is that only four of the six candidates registered to compete in the convention. Steve Fulop and Steve Sweeny elected not to participate. A true sign that the party line is dead.

In Tinton Falls, our elected County Committee representatives and a few others are eligible to vote at the convention and they have all been notified already. We'll report on the voting results after the convention.
June Primary Election Moved

The New Jersey Primary Election originally scheduled for Tuesday June 3, 2025 has been moved out one week due to a conflict with a Jewish holiday. The new date of the Primary is Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
